Boston to Provincetown Ferry Schedules
It's worth noting that both services bill themselves as Boston to Provincetown ferry services, not the other way round. What that means is that all ferries start their working day in Boston and make their first trip of the day to Provincetown. We sometimes get visitors who have planned a vacation in Provincetown but have one meeting at work that they can't afford to miss. They ask if there's a way to get to downtown Boston from their Provincetown vacation in time for an early morning meeting. The answer is no. This is not a commuter service along the lines of, say, the Staten Island Ferry. Schedule your meeting for the afternoon, and you'll be in good shape, but you can't really expect to get into Boston much before lunchtime if you're counting on the ferry to get you there. Here, then, are the schedules for the Boston to Provincetown ferry services.
BayState Cruise CompanyThe Baystate Cruise Company's Boston to Provicetown ferry schedule is pretty straightforward. Once they start up in mid May, there are three sailings a day for the entire season. There's a fourth sailing on Saturdays. Fast ferries have a 30 minute turn-around in P-Town before starting their journey back to Boston. The only wrinkle to that schedule involves the traditional ferry which has a shorter season (late June to Labor Day weekend) and stays in P-Town for a few hours before starting its return trip to Boston.
Traditional ferry service runs from Late June through Labor Day weekend only
Discount or Free TicketsIf you have a Go Boston CardThe savings on one ferry ride wouldn't be enough to justify the cost, but if you're planning a ferry ride, plus a handful of other attractions in the Boston area, the savings can add up pretty quickly. Check out our Boston travel deals page to see how the program works and whether a Boston Go Card is a good idea for you.
Boston Harbor CruisesThe Boston Harbor Cruises Boston to Provincetown ferry schedule is a little more involved since service starts up in mid-May for a single daily sailing from Thursday through Sunday only. It expands to a full daily schedule around the first week of June, (offering up to three sailings a day in peak season) before gradually subsiding through the fall until it stops for the winter around the middle of October.
May 19 - June 10 (Except Memorial Day Weekend)
Week Leading Up to Memorial DayFor the busy Memorial Day weekend, Boston Harbor Cruises increases the number of sailings to three a day, and adds two Monday sailings into the mix.
Memorial Day Monday
June 11-September 5By mid June, they have settled into their regular peak season patter of two sailings a day for the early part of the week, increasing to three a day for the latter part. The exceptions are the two holidays of July 4th and Labor day which have three sailings regardless.Monday - Wednesday
Thursday - Sunday
September 6 - September 25After Labor Day, as the season starts to wind down, the three-a-day schedule is reserved for weekend with a variable schedule for the rest of the week.September 6 - September 25
Tuesday - Thursday
Friday
Saturday - Sunday
September 26 - October 17Finally, as the season winds down, they revert to a once daily schedule even for weekends
There is also a Plymouth to Boston ferry services operated by Capt. John Boats that runs once a day during the summer season.
