A rugged beauty with bracing water and formidable waves, Cahoon Hollow is the ultimate Cape Cod Beach.

Add in that the fact that The Beachcomber, our favorite beach bar, sits high above the sands, tempting you with good food, drinks, and music, make Cahoon Hollow the perfect place to spend a day under the Cape Cod skies.

Located in the Town of Wellfleet, Cahoon Hollow is one of the Cape's prettiest beaches and with just two small parking lots, you can easily head over there and find yourself without a parking spot during the height of the summer.

You'll want to arrive early and park in the Beachcomber's parking lot, directly on your left as you drive down the hill. For $15.00, you'll get a voucher to spend in the restaurant or on Beachcomber merchandise- a great marketing tool. You can't just spend it on booze, so make sure you order something from the raw bar or main menu so you can use it.

The Town of Wellfleet operates the parking lot directly in front of the Beachcomber and though they charge you the same $15.00, you won't get that voucher.

And once you've secured a parking spot, be prepared to schuffle down a very steep dune to the beach. This is why that voucher is crucial- after spending hours at the beach, tired from sunning, spent from swimming and fighting those waves, the last thing you'll want to do is hike back up that hill with a big cooler, chairs and umbrella.

We'll bring our small fabric backpack cooler with just a drinks and a light snack together with our beach chairs and umbrella. That's it. Streamlined beachgoing.

Trust us, that hill is tougher than it looks- and we're in decent cardio shape. There's something about snoozing in a beach chair all day that sucks the energy right from under your bottom.

The water at Cahoon Hollow is cold, but once in a while, you'll get lucky and find that you can swim around without losing feeling in your limbs. Riding the waves is great fun which more than often makes up for the chilly water temperature.

Because of the limited parking, Cahoon Hollow doesn't pack them in but if you like a certain degree of distance from fellow beachgoers, there are plenty of spots down the beach.
