The Town of Orleans for CouplesWe most often visit the town of Orleans as a resting place on the Cape Cod Rail Trail, since the Hot Chocolate Sparrow there is usually where we stop for a coffee or ice cream when we take that particular bike ride. But there is far more to Orleans than just a place to rest. Nauset Beach is one of the best on Cape Cod, with crashing waves that make it a terrific surfing destination. The water can be a little bit bracing some of the time, and absolutely beautiful, other times. You can even go four-wheeling (day permit required) out to the very end of the peninsular for secluded sunbathing and swimming.
Romantic CouplesOn the bay side of town you have Skaket Beach and Rock Harbor, both of which are terrific places to watch some of the Capes most romantic sunsets. Take a picnic blanket and a bottle of wine and snuggle up to watch the show. It's not unusual for a sunset to elicit a spontaneous round of applause from onlookers. There's nothing quite like it to put you "in the mood".After dark, try a candle-lit dinner at Abba, on Old Colony Way & West Road. It has an intimate and sophisticated dining room and offers a terrific Mediterranean -themed menu.
Cultural CouplesOrleans has a quaint and bustling town center, with plenty of art galleries to visit. One of the best known is Tree's Place, which is one of America's Finest Contemporary Galleries specializing in contemporary realism, impressionism and post modernism (at least, that s what it says in the brochure). Seriously, its a very cool gallery, with some stunning pieces from local and international artists. Then, in late August, the Eldridge Park hosts one of the town's signature cultural events, Pops in the Park, featuring the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra. The annual concert is now in its twentieth year and offers a wonderful opportunity for visiting couples to have a picnic in the park and listen to live music under the stars. Sporting CouplesEldridge Park is also the home field of the Orleans Firebirds (formerly Cardinals) of the Cape Cod Baseball League, regularly attracting large crowds to the baseball field that holds up to 6,000 people.Check out their schedule and stop by to see a game. There's a good chance you'll be watching a future major-leaguer since an estimated 1-in-7 of the Cape Cod Baseball league's players eventually go on to have professional careers.
